Shopping in Doha
Doha's shopping ranges from Place Vendôme's 580-plus luxury stores in Lusail to Souq Waqif's handicraft alleys. Qatar has no tourist VAT refund scheme, since VAT itself is not yet implemented (source: fiscal-requirements.com, vatupdate.com, April 2026), so prices are what you see, with ordinary airport duty-free as the main tax-advantaged option.
Place Vendôme (Lusail)
Opened 15 April 2022: 1,150,000m² and more than 580 stores, French-inspired architecture with indoor canals and an hourly fountain show. Open Sunday-Wednesday 9:00-22:00, Thursday-Saturday 9:00-24:00 (source: Lusail.com, accessed 2026-08-14).
Villaggio Mall (Aspire Zone)
Italian-themed mall with a 150-metre indoor canal and gondola rides (Gondolania), plus an IMAX cinema. Reported hours (secondary sources, not independently confirmed on an official Aspire Zone hours page): Monday-Wednesday 9:00-23:00, Thursday-Saturday 9:00-24:00, Sunday 9:00-23:00 – confirm locally if timing matters.
Mall of Qatar (Al Rayyan)
Around 465,000m² of leasable area with 480 stores per the mall's own site (a separate secondary source cites 500-plus); Carrefour anchor store, Kidsmondo children's entertainment, adjacent to the Al Rayyan Hotel, Curio Collection by Hilton. No official opening hours were published on the mall's own site at time of research; confirm before visiting.
Doha Festival City
Home to Angry Birds World, which the mall describes as the world's first, spanning more than 20 attractions across 17,000m², plus IMAX, Virtuocity gaming and VOX Cinemas with 4DX. Open weekdays 10:00-22:00, weekends (Friday-Saturday) 10:00-23:00, with a Friday prayer-time break from 11:00 to 12:30 (source: dohafestivalcity.com, accessed 2026-08-14).
The Pearl-Qatar
Porto Arabia and Qanat Quartier hold marina-side boutiques and cafes on this artificial island off West Bay Lagoon, a more relaxed, browsing-focused alternative to the enclosed malls.
Souq Waqif
For handicrafts, spices, textiles and souvenirs rather than international retail brands. See the Souq Waqif guide for full details, including hours.
Can tourists get a VAT refund on shopping in Doha?
No. Qatar signed the GCC VAT Framework Agreement in 2016 but, as of an April 2026 update, had still not implemented VAT domestically, and rollout is not expected before 2026 at the earliest, at a proposed rate of 5%. That means there is no tax-free shopping refund counter for tourists at Hamad International Airport. What the airport does offer is ordinary duty-free retail, roughly 40,000m² of shopping space (source: fiscal-requirements.com and vatupdate.com, both April 2026, accessed 2026-08-14; two independent sources agree).
